C F Deep water, ice and snow G C And with a thousand cattle, we had to go F To get the cattle to the other side G C You can bet your life we had to ride C F Now the railroad was but a mile away G C But some men and horses would die that day F We held the herd on a ridge close by G C As the north wind blew the snowflakes by C F Well we were all chilled our bodies thru G C But from cold or fear, nobody knew F So we lit us a smoke and we watched her blow G C Now slack your cinches, we gotta go C F Deep water, ice and snow G C And with a thousand cattle we had to go C F Well I pointed the men and we hit her fast G C But our luck by now was a fadin fast F That man was a talkin from down below G C As my horse and I were next to go C F Well my horse turned over and I floated free G C But the waves was so high, I couldn't see F Then my horse swam by and I grabbed his tail G C He dragged me outa that icy hell C F Deep water, ice and snow G C And with a thousand cattle we had to go C F Well I'll never forget that terrible day G C When grown men cried and I heard some pray F We crossed the cattle to the other side G C Just to save a vain mans pride C F Well the hell I've seen was mighty cold G C But the other kinds worse or so I'm told F Well I just hope when I have to go G C It ain't in deep water, ice or snow C F Deep water, ice and snow G C And with a thousand cattle we had to go F To get the cattle to the other side G C You can bet your life we had to ride
